Soli Deo Gloria, Glory to God Alone • TRANSCRIPT • Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God • By Jonathan Edwards July 8, 1741 • The bow of God's wrath is bent, and the arrow made ready on the string, and justice bends the arrow at your heart, and strains the bow, and it is nothing but the mere pleasure of God, and that of an angry God, without any promise or obligation at all, that keeps the arrow one moment from being made drunk with your blood. Thus all you that never passed under a great change of heart, by the mighty power of the Spirit of God upon your souls; all you that were never born again, and made new creatures, and raised from being dead in sin, to a state of new, and before altogether unexperienced light and life, are in the hands of an angry God. However you may have reformed your life in many things, and may have had religious affections, and may keep up a form of religion in your families and closets, and in the house of God, it is nothing but his mere pleasure that keeps you from being this moment swallowed up in everlasting destruction. However unconvinced you may now be of the truth of what you hear, by and by you will be fully convinced of it. Those that are gone from being in the like circumstances with you, see that it was so with them; for destruction came suddenly upon most of them; when they expected nothing of it, and while they were saying, Peace and safety: now they see, that those things on which they depended for peace and safety, were nothing but thin air and empty shadows...Now undoubtedly it is, as it was in the days of John the Baptist, the axe is in an extraordinary manner laid at the root of the trees, that every tree which brings not forth good fruit, may be hewn down and cast into the fire. • Therefore, let every one that is out of Christ, now awake and fly from the wrath to come. • BACKGROUND INFORMATION • Soli Deo Gloria was created for a collage project under the module Film as Art , It was my hope to creatively depict wrath. This was shown at an art exhibition in where the viewer would enter a dark box and look down to view the film, this was to create an immersive experience. I was wanting to scare the Hell out of people. • I chose Soli Deo Gloria as the title as I have come to realise that God is both Glorified in the Redemption of His Elect (Christians and those who will believe) and the damnation of the non-elect (unbelieving those who reject the Gospel). • Please read: Psalm 52, Romans 9, Revelation 6:9-11 and Galatians 6:7. • ARTISTIC INFLUENCE • I first reviewed Corpus Hypercubus by Salvador Dali and thought of the transcendental nature of God that Dali had captured by depicting Christ on a hypercube which is a transcendental, multi-dimensional object. • This lead me to the investigation of further transcendental subjects such as the mystery schools and occult. Nicholas Roerich was a leading mystic in the states and a painter. He often depicted a three circle symbol that symbolized world piece under a one world leader. • I then went to the National Gallery of Ireland and saw the The Opening of the Sixth Seal by Francis Danby which lead me to similar paintings of John Martin depicting wrath in landscape. • REVELATION 6-9-16 • When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth? Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed. • I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
