I installed a new knock sensor without removing the old one on a V6 2.1 engine, which is much similar to other V6 Ford, Mazda and Jaguar engines. • Why did I prefer a new knock sensor relocation to a knock sensor replacement? • It's an open secret that the original mounting position of the KS is difficult to access. It is positioned under the intake manifold with its 12 gasket rings, injectors and a coolant pipe, which is also difficult to remove. And even if one installs the KS on the original position, nobody can guarantee that the coolant pipe will not leak after you mount everything back on the engine. And which is worse, one cannot control this issue visually. Besides, the knock sensor has to function in a poorly ventilated place, very often in an oil leaked from the engine heads. That's why I considered it necessary to find some other position for KS installation, rather than just replace the old one. • The tools necessary to carry out my method is a deep 13 mm socket and a welding machine to weld an additional M8 bolt to the bolt securing the gearbox. That's it. • In my case the KS installed as I showed in this video is functioning properly, but I cannot guarantee that the same will happen in your case on your car.
