Frequent air travellers would have noticed different aircraft for longer and shorter air routes. In these designs, you can see very peculiar and different tail wings having different purposes. An airplane is manufactured by 3 different parts, Fuselage, tail wings and empennage. In this video we have discussed only the empennage part of the plane. • The main purpose of the empennage is to give directional stability to the aircraft. • There are more than 10 different types of empennage that are globally used but we are going to pick out only 5 of them in this video. • Conventional empennage design - Specifically used among 70% of commercial aircraft since it is easy to maintain, manufacture and lightweight. • T-Tail - Commonly used for small business and trijets as this type has smaller ground clearance. A good example is Boeing 727. • H-Tail - This is an old piston engine aircraft having rudders behind airstream providing greater stability in flight. • Twin Tail Design - Popular among fighter planes acting as a survivability factor even if one wing is shot in combat. • V-Tails -This is also known as Ruddervators (Rudders+Elevators). Commonly designed for ultralight aircraft, drones and fuselage-mounted planes. • Watch the full video to understand the topic better and also subscribe to our channel to get more videos like this. • Visit our website for advanced Industry-relevant courses - https://bit.ly/2xHGm6k • #skilllync #mechanicalengineers #aircrafttails • About Skill-Lync • Skill-Lync helps you learn industry-relevant skills that will accelerate your career.
