In 1958, loggers in northern California found large footprints in the woods. The local paper ran a column poking fun at the claims of a “Bigfoot.” Little did they know this would start a national phenomenon … one of many about supposed monsters lurking in the American wilderness. • While there have been more than 10,000 reported Bigfoot sightings since, no one has ever found definitive evidence of the creature … which makes sense, since those original footprints were a hoax. • Bigfoot (supposedly) isn't alone. • Since the 1700s, New Jersey residents have spoken of a winged, goatlike beast that lives in the state’s Pine Barrens. Alleged sightings have spawned mass hysterias, including one so severe that it led to school closures. • Further south, West Virginia’s “Mothman” is said to be a 7-foot-tall pale humanoid with wings and glowing red eyes. Two couples first reported him in 1966, when they claimed he kept up with their car, even as they accelerated to 100 MPH. • Up north, Lake Champlain is supposedly home to “Champ,” a monster who bears a suspicious resemblance to the Loch Ness Monster. There have been more than 300 sightings of Champ … the most famous of which was probably just a sturgeon. • 📝 SCRIPT • 🎁 BONUS CONTENT • 📚 SOURCES • AND MORE at https://kiteandkey.media/3TxBFno • • The world is complicated … but the explanations don’t have to be. ⚡ New videos every Wednesday. • SUBSCRIBE to Kite Key on YouTube: • https://bit.ly/YouTubeKiteAndKey • • FOLLOW Kite Key on your favorite social channel: • / kiteandkeymedia • / kiteandkeymedia • / kiteandkeymedia • / kite-and-key-media • / kiteandkeymedia • https://www.threads.net/@kiteandkeymedia
