How To Stop Your Pool Pump Motor From Overheating • CLEAN POOL AND SPA VIDERO SERIES: https://www.clean-pool-and-spa.com/FT... • CLEAN POOL AND SPA RESOURCES: https://www.clean-pool-and-spa.com/sw... • Pool pump motors are going to run hot, there's no way around it. Heat is a byproduct of energy loss and a pool pump is no different than other electric motor. The problem is when they run too hot and that means something is wrong. Something is causing additional heat to be generated. • The number one reason pool pump motors run hot is lack of air flow. Air must be drawn into the motor and over internal components. Any type of air restriction, and your pump motor will run hotter than it should, reducing its life span. • And this is a perfect example of what not to do. We can see the amount of debris around the motor and on the equipment pad. I removed a lot of it. This was a pool inspection I was doing for a customer. It was all under the plumbing and unions which is bad due to the fact that leaks are more difficult to find. • • Lots of debris next to the pump pot and motor. • And I wanted to show you this area of the motor, the air intake. I found a small leaf to demonstrate the amount of air the motor needs to stay cool. You can see the leaf is attaching itself to the motor because of the suction caused by the motor. It's really important we keep this area clean. If debris is allowed to pile up, like this, the air will be restricted which can cause the motor to run hotter than it should. • • So let's keep it clean so we can keep our motors running cool.
