The white-rumped shama (Copsychus malabaricus) is a small passerine bird of the family Muscicapidae. • The White Rumped Shama is a small passerine bird native to densely vegetated habitats in the Indian Subcontinent and South East Asia. The White Rumped Shama is found in bamboo forested areas and jungles. They were formerly not uncommon, but the local population has been heavily poached. • The White Rumped Shama is one of the most popular and best song bird species in the caged bird trade. Its popularity as a cage bird and songster has led to it being introduced everywhere. • The value of the bird is based on its physical appearance and its song. Longer tailed birds fetch higher prices.
