#StephenHillenburg • Today's another really sad day, especially for me, for we lost another really wonderful and beloved person. This time, it's the legendary Stephen Hillenburg, who is best known as the creator of the popular long-running Nickelodeon animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants. He died yesterday at the age of 57 due to ALS, which he was diagnosed with last year. First started out as a marine biologist, then worked on comic strips, then went to do animation at CalArts, then worked on Rocko's Modern Life, and then created SpongeBob SquarePants and has worked on it from the beginning until after the release of the first movie in 2004. Since then, Paul Tibbit took over as showrunner and Hillenburg didn't return until after the release of the second movie (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water) in 2015. • I won't lie, when I found out about the news this morning, I was REALLY heartbroken and I literally dropped my phone in shock. This man has been such a huge inspiration to me, for my brother and I have grown up with SpongeBob all our lives. I've made a lot of SpongeBob-related videos on this channel, been exposed to lots of wonderful SpongeBob memes, and I've been a SpongeBob fan all my life. I don't know if Stephen's death will mean the end of SpongeBob or not. Doesn't seem right to continue without the man who started it all. (Believe me, they've tried it before after the first movie, and look how SpongeBob turned out). Guess we'll just have to find out. • SpongeBob SquarePants wasn't just a source of memes, it was a source of nostalgia, and we have Stephen Hillenburg to thank for it. Thanks for all that you did, thanks for the memories you've created, thanks for the characters that we all know and love (or hate), thanks for all the nautical nonsense that we wished, thanks for your creativity, but most of all, thank you for yourself. What you've left behind in this world will forever remain unforgettable. • R.I.P Mr. Hillenburg
