All you need are a few simple ingredients and you'll be on your way to herb and cheese bread heaven! Where I live, Subway has very limited options, so being able to make this delicious bread at home (and build my own sub the way I want) is AMAZING!! But the best part to me is that I can create WHATEVER kind of bread rolls that I want, I'm not just limited to Subways limited selection! Think Mexican herb and cheese or Jalapeno herb and cheese bread....I could go on, but let's get into this Italian herb and cheese recipe instead! • Here's what you'll need to make copycat (but BETTER and vegan) Subway Italian Herb and Cheese Bread: (makes 4 footlong sub buns) • 546g bread flour • 328g water (temperature between 50-55 degrees Celcius) • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (plus more for brushing) • 12g vital wheat gluten • 12g white sugar • 1 pkg (8g) instant yeast • 10g sea salt • Italian herbs, garlic salt and vegan cheese for topping • If you want to top your Italian herb and cheese bread my way you'll need: • Thinly sliced fennel, onions and tomatoes • Marinated artichokes • Black Olives • Garlic and lemon aioli • I also recommend these kitchen tools for making bread at home: • 1. Kitchen scale - no two flours are alike, so the only way to be accurate is with a scale. • 2. Kitchen thermometer - getting the temperature right is essential to proper yeast formation. You can also check that your bread has reached an internal temperature of 200 degrees Fahrenheit to make sure it's done. • 3. Baguette or bread roll pan - I just love mine so much!!
