Home-Assistant Cloud Alexa • With ver 0.60 the Awesome Home-Assistant Developers have included a way for Alexa to control ANYTHING you have connected to Home-Assistant! • To make it work they’ve started a Home-Assistant Cloud. If you’re concerned about security, they say they aren’t storing any information in their “cloud”, just passing messages between your Home Assistant instance, and Alexa. Prior to this the process was quite complicated. You had to use SSL, and you had to create a custom developer “skill”. Now, it’s as easy as adding a line in your config file. Wow. • For now, the cloud service is free. Starting in March it will cost $5/mo and be part of what the HA devs are calling “Community Support Package”. They’re talking about adding other perks later. First on the list is a similar connection to Google Assistant. Home Assistant will still be free, and you can still connect to Alexa the old hard way. • Written instructions here: • https://home-assistant.io/blog/2017/1... • Steps: • Update to Home Assistant 0.60 (or newer) • https://home-assistant.io/docs/instal... • Add “cloud:” to your HA config file to load the Cloud component, and restart HA. • In HA, go to Configuration and setup Home Assistant Cloud • Enable the Home Assistant Alexa Skill: https://skills-store.amazon.com/deepl... • Click Discover Devices • That’s it! Wow! • You can further customize the HA/Alexa interface by hiding some HA items from Alexa. You can also set new names that Alexa will associate with specified HA devices.
