If you watch my hotel videos often, you probably know that I tend to select some pretty inexpensive properties (at least when I'm not traveling on business). It's a strategy that I stand behind. In fact, choosing inexpensive hotels is one of the reasons I'm able to travel so much. The key to picking a good budget hotel is finding a place that's safe, clean and comfortable. Dated decor and some minor problems are sort of expected. In this case, spending a night in the Chicago loop area for less than $70/night (when most other properties were $180+) was well worth the few minor issues I ran into, at least in my opinion. The circa-1920s building had a lot of character, the staff was friendly, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. However, there was a special surprise on the top shelf in the closet. That issue aside, this was a super-interesting property with loads of character that was lots of fun to review. Certainly not your cookie-cutter suburban hotel. • What do you think?
