Aerial photography for a short documentary about the history of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church located in Western Maryland -Allegany County's City of Cumberland. • Built on the foundations of Fort Cumberland. A fort enlarged in 1755 by General Edward Braddock....it would be where George Washington began his military career. • As an important location during the French and Indian War, troops created tunnels under Fort Cumberland. Tunnels and passageways would be used as a way to retrieve water from a nearby creek, a place to escape from battle, and a place to keep supplies. • The fort was abandoned in 1765. Over 80 years later, the Reverend David Hillhouse Buel recognized the tunnels would be a great place to hide fleeing slaves and had the church built on the foundations of Fort Cumberland. • Escaped and fleeing slaves would stay nearby and wait and listen for an irregular ringing with the church's bells....signaling that it was safe to approach the church. • The Emmanuel Episcopal Church was about 4 miles from the precious Mason-Dixon line. For many, the church was the underground railroad's final stop before freedom. • Today, the church still holds service on Sundays. It opens it doors for tours of the tunnels during Cumberland's Heritage Days festivals. • Having helped save thousands of lives...it stands proud in the skyline of Cumberland. • Filmed by part 107 commercial drone pilot and following all federal, state, and local laws to ensure the safety of people and property. • Narrated by Stacey Dennison. • Follow our channel for more aerial photography and videos. • To support further videos and short documentaries, please consider purchasing merchandise: https://my-store-bbfdb8.creator-sprin... • For inquires: [email protected] • falconsviewphotography.com
