Coffea arabica is a hybrid of two other coffea species, C. eugenioides and C. canephora, but its genomic structure is very different from every other member of the Coffea genus. In this video, I explore the interesting mechanism that C. arabica utilized to form a stable and fertile hybrid from divergent species to produce the speciality coffee that we enjoy today. • Some interesting links: • Coffee genome paper: https://www.nature.com/articles/s4159... • ECRE podcast with Dr. Michele Morgante on the coffee genome: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast... • Coffee karyotypes: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/K... • Citations: • Coffea eugenioides 3 .
