The romans moved onto the Lake District area around AD90 placing forts a marching day apart including a fort at Ambleside which can seen as a low ruin today. The route went south to a fort at Kendal and north to Old Penrith via marching camps at Troutbeck (northern version on the A66) I’m grateful to the RRRA for their work locating locating roman roads and their website is invaluable also please consider joining https://romanroads.org/
