How to Setup VIRTUAL DESKTOP on Oculus Quest 2

I’m about to completely change how you play VR and convince you to finally ditch that cable! • Everything I will tell you about today is completely true and it is the culmination of what I’ve learned from using Virtual Desktop for over a year now. I had the same reaction when I got sick of using the oculus link cable. Well, a good solution to that is using Virtual Desktop. Now some people may be saying, why not just use Airlink? It is in beta and does not work for a lot of people. • So you want to use Virtual Desktop? Well, you made the right choice. It is a stellar program that is worth every penny in my opinion. It is the main way I use my VR headset, especially now since my headset refuses to work with oculus link or airlink. This tutorial will show you where to get Virtual Desktop and how to install it. • For this tutorial you will need: • To have Virtual Desktop purchased on the oculus store, and a solid 5GHZ wifi connection with your headset being wireless and your PC being ethernet connected for optimal performance. • Again, just want to emphasize that you need to purchase Virtual Desktop on the Oculus store and NOT on Steam. • Ok so now go ahead and put on your VR headset. Open up the oculus store and purchase Virtual Desktop. Then install it and open it. You see these instructions right here, well we are basically just going to follow them. Also, make sure to remember what it says your username here is, you will need it in a step I will show you later on. • Ok so go to settings and make sure your screen looks the same as mine. This bitrate down here can change though as it just depends on how good your wifi connection is. Mine is set pretty low. Now go to stream settings, and make sure all of yours are the same as mine. There should only be 2 potential differences. Your quality could be different depending on your graphics card, I have a 3070 so I'm setting mine to the max. My bitrate is also going to be different because again, it's dependent on your wifi and my signal is pretty weak in my room. Alright so now go back on your PC and go to the virtual desktop website. • Ok so download the windows version, mac if you’re on mac obviously. Install it. Now type in that oculus username that I told you to remember from earlier. Make sure you go through the settings and change them to your liking. • Now you can put on your headset and restart Virtual Desktop and open it, make sure the streamer app is still open on your PC. Your PC should automatically connect. Now just start the streaming and you should have a virtual view of your monitor. From here, you can open things like SteamVR games like Beat Saber or just use your desktop normally. • So by now, you should have virtual desktop setup to connect your pc and oculus device.
