Nurse sharks, Ginglymostoma cirratum, inhabit many bonefish flats, and while the fish display the dorsal fin and profile that send a shiver down the spine of anyone who has seen Jaws, the species is usually not aggressive. In fact, swimming with nurse sharks is a popular tourist experience, as these predators can seem downright friendly to humans in the water. However, these sharks do eat bonefish, and they especially like to chase down tired fish that have just been released by anglers. This is one reason that it is so important that anglers play and release bonefish quickly, so they are not too exhausted to escape.
