This walk through shows how to replace the rented BlueStream Fiber cable modem with an Arris S33 2.5gbps Docsis 3.1 modem and UDM-Pro SE from Ubiquiti UniFi in order to remove the monthly cable modem rental fee off my cable internet bill. • My UDM-Pro SE with U6-Pro access points provide WiFi coverage throughout my house so I didn't need the WiFi capabilities in the modem supplied by BlueStream so I got the fastest basic Arris cable modem, the S33. It can support 2.5gbps even though my area maxes out at 1gbps, for future-proofing. Most importantly, it supports Docsis 3.1 which is a requirement to work with BlueStream's network. • Parts list (As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases from links marked paid): • Arris S33 Cable Modem - https://amzn.to/40kkXIK (paid link) • Essentially all you need to do is purchase your own Docsis 3.1 compliant cable modem, connect it in place of your existing rented modem, and call BlueStream (or Cox, Comcast, XFinity, Spectrum, etc) to let them know you are changing the modem to your own and provide the MAC address on the bottom of the modem. After, go into UniFi Network to ensure it is getting an IP from the modem with DHCP. • Once everything is working, in the case of BlueStream, just drop by your local office to turn in the old modem and they will remove the monthly fee off your cable internet bill.
