Welcome to Hai Hai Channel! Today, we invite you to join us on a scenic fall adventure to Frontenac Provincial Park, a hidden gem nestled in the wilderness north of Kingston, Ontario. It’s a perfect getaway to experience the vibrant autumn colors, peaceful hiking trails, and tranquil paddling opportunities. • Arrival at Frontenac Provincial Park • After an early start from Toronto and a long but scenic drive, we finally arrived at the Park Office and Visitor Centre. Greeted by the crisp autumn air, we checked in to get our day-use pass and picked up some trail maps. The Visitor Centre gave us an insightful glimpse into the park’s wildlife and geology, which made us even more excited to explore! • Picnic Lunch by South Otter Lake • Feeling a little hungry after the journey, we found a beautiful spot by South Otter Lake to enjoy our picnic lunch. The lake shimmered under the mid-day sun, and we could already see the trees surrounding it glowing in red, orange, and gold. It was the perfect peaceful moment to sit back, relax, and take in the scenery. • Hiking the Doe Lake Loop • With full bellies and our spirits lifted, we started the Doe Lake Loop Trail, a 7-kilometer path winding through the heart of the park. Right from the start, the forest embraced us with its brilliant fall colors—maples and oaks standing tall in fiery red and burnt-orange hues. • The trail took us over rocky outcrops and along the shoreline of Doe Lake. We paused to admire the reflections of golden leaves rippling on the lake’s surface. Along the way, boardwalks led us through marshy sections, where we spotted a few dragonflies buzzing around the reeds. It felt like we were walking inside a painting! • Arab Lake Gorge Trail • After finishing the Doe Lake Loop, we switched to the Arab Lake Gorge Trail, a shorter 1.5-kilometer path that promised more of the fall splendor. The trail took us across a wooden boardwalk that wound through a picturesque wetland. The peaceful stillness of the forest here, combined with the bright autumn foliage, made it feel almost magical. We took our time, capturing the views on camera and soaking in the beauty of the season. • Kayaking on Big Salmon Lake • Next, we drove to the Big Salmon Lake boat launch for the final adventure of the day—kayaking along the calm waters of Big Salmon Lake. As soon as we pushed off, the lake stretched out before us like a mirror reflecting the surrounding forest, painted in vivid fall colors. • The gentle rhythm of paddling allowed us to explore the lake at our own pace. We glided past rocky outcrops and watched as a pair of loons called out to each other in the distance. The water was so still, we could see every ripple from our paddles, and the reflections of the sky and the forest felt surreal. • With the sun slowly dipping toward the horizon, we paused for a moment in the middle of the lake, letting the peace of the place wash over us. It was the perfect way to end our day—surrounded by nature, in the heart of autumn. • Wrap-Up • As the sun began to set, we paddled back to the boat launch and reluctantly packed up, knowing it was time to head home. But the memories of this day—the hikes through colorful forests, the peaceful picnic by the lake, and the quiet paddle on Big Salmon Lake—will stay with us for a long time. • Thank you for joining us on this wonderful fall adventure at Frontenac Provincial Park!
