Teamed up with an F-16 and we were working an airfield in a broad valley. He was focusing on top cover and overwatch while I was responsible for neutralizing SAM sites. This valley had little to no cover for a good ten miles around the target, and just to reach my release point I had to fly as low as I dared. • Already suspicious of the aural cues I got through TEWS/RWR, the pucker factor dialed up to 11: It's actually pretty normal to get shot at as I release and slice out into the escape maneuver, but an SA-15 fired on me before release, the flat valley floor unable to mask my approach from the Scrum Half. Often this encourages me to abort, but I really wanted to deliver these weapons and I was already joker fuel, so I let the intrusive thoughts win and held the climb until release, then pulled the stick hard to slice out. • Of note, I had only two CBU-97s remaining and three AAMRAMs for stores, and 5000lbs of fuel on board - which is nothing in terms of payload for this beast. • What could have gone differently? I could have continued pitching up instead of holding, although past experience suggests doing so seems to cause the computer to miscalculate the exact release time resulting in over/undershoot. Doing so might have also reduced available kinetic energy for the slice. I could have pulled less hard, but I'd rather face an angry crew chief than fiery doom in bad country. Despite it being somewhat reckless, I would probably execute the attack similarly again. • Nevertheless, this is what you get when a Viper driver transitions to the Eagle. Ask and that tennis court will deliver (when you're going fast, anyway). • 0:00 Ingress • 0:34 Pop-Up and Delivery • Music: Nuclear Option Ifrit Theme (guys, put the OST up for sale already!) • Server: Through The Inferno Syria
