Because of their isolation they remained hidden after the Spanish conquest, and therefore maintain the original Inka practices up until the present time when they were 'discovered'. Accordingly to legend when the Spanish invaded a group of the high priests and mystics got together and fled into the mountains. The Q'ero are the last of the true Inka lineage.
