Instead, the play was filmed before a studio audience at St. Hedwig Church. • School for Scandal is Richard Sheridan's 1777 comedy of manners satirizing the behaviour of the scandalmonger, and their exaggerations into fantasy to validate the truth of their thirdhand information. Such vices are leveraged by opportunists to advance their schemes. The morality of wit and laughter is staked out by the character Maria: ‘wit loses its respect with me when I see it in company with malice’.
