#Sundaysermon #churchonline #newlifebronx • Building Friendship that Last • By Pastor Fernando Cabrera • October 6, 2024 • 1. Be transparent • (1 Samuel 20:1-2) Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah and went to Jonathan and asked, 'What have I done? What is my crime? How have I wronged your father, that he is trying to kill me?' “Never!” Jonathan replied. “You are not going to die! Look, my father doesn’t do anything, great or small, without letting me know. Why would he hide this from me? It isn’t so!” • (Proverbs 27:6) Wounds from a friend can be trusted • (Matthew 7:6) “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” • 2. Add value • (1 Samuel 19:1-2) “Now Saul told his son Jonathan and all his servants to put David to death. But Jonathan, Saul’s son, greatly delighted in David. 2 So Jonathan informed David, saying, “My father Saul is seeking to put you to death. Now then, please be on your guard in the morning, and stay in a hiding place and conceal yourself” • (1 Samuel 19:4) “ Then Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul and said to him, “May the king not sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his deeds have been very beneficial to you.” (1 Samuel 23:16-17) “Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God. He said to him, ‘Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you.’” • (2 Samuel 9:7) “Then David said to him, “Do not be afraid, for I will assuredly show kindness to you for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul; and you yourself shall eat at my table regularly.” • (Proverbs 27:17) As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. • (John 15:13) Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. • 3. Be loyal • (1 Samuel 18:4) “ Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt. (Proverbs 17:17) “A friend loves at all times.” • 4. Make God the center of the relationship • (1 Samuel 20:41-42) After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with his face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together—but David wept the most. Jonathan said to David, 'Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.
