Selective soldering is the process by which through-hole components are soldered on to a PCB. It consists of an inline fluxer, preheating and soldering modules. This selective soldering machine is capable of soldering about 300 boards per hour. • Selective Soldering Process: • The machine is programmed with the coordinates for the through-hole components, which are extracted from the Gerber files. • After the machine has been programmed, the next step is to place the boards into the feeder. They are placed onto the conveyor line and the clamp is adjusted to make sure that they are held firmly in place • The conveyor moves the boards on to the next step of the process: flux application. Flux is applied to the PCBs for two reasons: • 1. To remove the layer of oxidized metal on which the solder will be applied. • 2. To seal out any remaining air, preventing further oxidization • The servo drive drop-jet fluxer can spray single spots or tracks with high precision and volume control. • The next step is the preheating stage. Once the flux has been applied, the PCB is gradually heated from both the top and bottom to activate the flux. The boards are heated to about 100 degrees. • The soldering module consists of a dual solder pot and top side convection heating. The electromagnetic solder bump can provide a consistent solder wave. In this step, the solder nozzles apply solder to the through-hole components on the boards. A solder fountain is formed, and the solder nozzles pass through a series of components and continuously apply solder to the passing pins. • The boards exit the machine and are inspected by our machine operators. During the inspection we make sure the boards have been soldered to IPC standards.
