If a Honda Civic and an EVO had a baby, and sent it to boarding school, this is it: The 2008 Volkswagen R32 was a performance variant of the popular GTI. It has a 3.2 liter VR6 engine making 250HP at 6300RPM (10 more than the Mk 4 R32), with torque remaining at 236 ft-lbs. With the paddle-shifted DSG gearbox it would hit 60MPH in 6.2s, putting the power through a Haldex front-wheel-biased AWD system. The R32 always trailed the Subaru STI and Mistubishi VO in terms of speed and agility, but in felt like a higher-quality car, and it was more, uh, mature looking than its wing-wearing competitors.
