Unfortunately, the user interface of Windows Defender is not very reliable and you might fail to recover your file, so it is probably better to disable the auto-quarantine feature in Windows Defender. After this Defender will ask permission before sending files to quarantine. It would continue to block detected threats as before so it should not affect your security.
