The Tullys, a noble house in the fictional world of Westeros from the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George Martin, are known for having less control over their bannermen compared to some other noble houses. This is partly due to historical and geographical factors. The Tullys are located in the Riverlands, a region with a history of instability and frequent conflicts. Additionally, the Tullys have not always held as much power and influence as some of the other major houses, which can affect their ability to command loyalty from their bannermen. These factors contribute to the Tullys' struggle to maintain strong control over their vassals. • welcome to my channel, please don't forget to like and subscribe and also click on the notification bell to remain updated. • There are three major reasons. First, the Tullys are relatively new. The Starks, Arryns, Martells, and Lannisters had ruled their bannermen for thousands of years. Those names are pretty much synonymous with the regions they ruled. The Tyrells, Baratheons, and Tullys on the other hand are sort of considered “upstarts”. Without a thousand years of history, the Tullys’ grasp of the Riverlands was more tenuous. • Second, there was a weak association between Riverrun and the Riverlands. House Tyrell is an upstart, but they inherited the castles and holdings of House Gardner and more importantly, High Garden from where the Gardners ruled the Reach for a thousand years. House Baratheon inherited Storm’s End, from where the Storm Kings ruled the Stormlands. The Riverlands however have never been ruled from Riverrun before until AegOn's conquest. The association is a lot weaker. Third, Hoster Tully is old and bedridden. On top of that, Edmure was not particularly charismatic or well known for his martial prowess. Mace Tyrell for example had Garlan and Loras. Without a strong leader, the vassal lords become more truculent and less willing to follow. That spot is tied for between them and the Tyrells. • We are talking about two capable noble houses, who are lower on the nobility scale, especially the Tyrells. Without the heritage of having been kings once, their authority is weaker. • As for the Tully, they arguably have it worse. Their wealth and power is actually smaller than that of several of their vassals, Mallister, Blackwood, Bracken, Vance, Frey, etc. • They are there because they were appointed by AegOn the Conqueror. And, unlike the Tyrells, they don’t even have the power to put their vassals in line. Not to mention that the riverlords are notoriously quarrelsome. The ancient feud between House Bracken and House Blackwood being the most famous example.#gameofthrones #housestark #housetully
