Track your pregnancy with our app: https://wte.onelink.me/85iI/29dt1g98 As your baby's brain grows, you may start feeling absent-minded or forgetful – pregnancy brain is real! • Learn more about week 30 of pregnancy: https://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnanc... • Transcript: • Welcome to the big three-oh. Sticking with the three theme, baby is still weighing in at about 3 pounds, give or take, and is measuring about 16 inches long, about the length of a sweet beet, leaves included. • Filling your baby's head is an ever-growing, fast-developing brain, which is preparing for life outside the womb and for a lifetime of learning. Starting this week, that brain is starting to look like one, taking on those characteristic grooves and indentations. These wrinkles allow for future expansion of brain tissue that's vital as your baby goes from helpless newborn to responsive infant to verbal toddler to curious preschooler and beyond. No need to break out the Shakespeare, but feel free to sing, talk and read to your little one, who's happily soaking up the sound of your voice if not hanging on every word. • That bigger brain is also starting to take on tasks previously delegated to other parts of the body, like temperature regulation. Now that the brain is capable of turning up the heat with the help of that growing supply of body fat, your little one will finally start shedding lanugo, the downy, soft body hair that's been acting as a warm jacket up until this point. By the time your baby is born, that little body will be smooth and ready for snuggles, though some babies will still sport a bit of leftover fuzz, especially if they're born early. • Speaking of brains, you might be feeling like your brain isn't operating at full capacity. Pregnancy brain is real. Like most pregnancy symptoms, this forgetfulness is brought to you by, you guessed it, hormones. Sleep deprivation can also play a role, as can the fact that you're constantly low on energy, energy your brain needs to stay focused. Fortunately, pregnancy brain is only temporary. You'll probably be out of that fog within a few months of delivery.
