An equity long-short strategy is an investing strategy utilised principally by hedge funds, that involves taking long positions in stocks that the fund managers believe will rise in value and short positions in stocks that they think will decrease in value. • Understanding Hedge Fund Strategies: Equity Long / Short The Long, Short Equity is a popular trading strategy adopted by many funds. Such a fund will buy a stock they believe is underperforming and is going to move higher and they will short a stock they believe is overrated and will go lower.
