This is one of the tunes, most requested as a lesson and backing track on my Patreon website. So I felt it might be a good idea to record my version of this great tune, playing on top of the backing track I recorded for my Patrons. / peakfiddler • This tune is extremely popular and Dougie Maclean did a fine job in originally composing and playing this tune on the soundtrack of the film 'Last of the the Mohicans'. • As you can hear, my version differs in a number of places, but still retains the same feel I believe that Dougie imparted into his original melody. Well I certainly hope so anyway. • This video was recorded immediately after breakfast, as I knew this was something that my supportive Patrons had requested and I didn't want to hang about and keep them waiting. I made 4 takes, but upon listening preferred the very first take to be the best, whilst I was still half asleep and simply playing from memory and making up other parts of the melody as I was going along. That is definitely a good way to play, totally loose and free to explore all of the nuances of a tune. • Later on in the day, I filmed lessons for different levels on Patreon and added the backing track and play along videos as extra's. So all in all, hopefully I covered every useful aspect to learning this tune. Including as near as I could manage, a lesson explaining the technique Dougie uses to play his original version of the melody. • I now have a Patreon website and for a small amount each month you get regular teaching videos, sheet music, backing tracks, live streams, newsletters and more.
