The demands of the students were not met and he resigned his post. This was considered insubordination by the authorities and expelled with the condition he would be taken back provided he agreed to take up the post again. • • He went home and earned the wrath of his father who instructed him to go back in fall that year. At the same time the father decided to get him married so he would settle down but instead Mandela ran away from home. • • He moved to Johannesburg and continued his degree through correspondence. He also enrolled for a law course. • • In 1942 he joined the African national Congress and formed a group within it called the African National Youth League . • • The goal of this movement was turn into a mass movement and do so by strikes, boycott, and civil disobedience and non- cooperation. • • For twenty years he headed this movement and in 1956 he with 150 others were arrested and charged with treason. • • A breakaway group called the pan Africanists came up and the Parent body soon lost importance. • • Nelson Mandela was sent to prison in1962 and remained there till 1990 and during this time he lost faith in the non-violent methods he had advocated. He earned his law degree there and even initiated a number of movements against apartheid. • • Soon a clamour among world leaders to release him came up and the African government even tried to kill him in an encounter but that was foiled. • • He was awarded the Nobel Peace prize for his efforts against apartheid and was considered an important political entity till his death in 2013. #theopenbook #Education #Educationalvideos #Studyiq #learn #Cbse #icse #ssc #generalknowledge
