The 72-year-old is undergoing treatment at the prison after an alarming blood test result required immediate medical attention, his lawyer revealed on Monday. • Weinstein's health has been a concern for some time, with his attorneys previously stating that he suffers from a range of health problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, and now bone marrow cancer. In September, he was rushed to the hospital from Rikers Island for emergency heart surgery. Just two months before that, he was hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward for various health conditions, including testing positive for COVID-19 and contracting double pneumonia. • Weinstein's legal troubles are far from over, as he was found guilty of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley in 2006 and raping Jessica Mann in 2013. More than 80 women have accused him of sexual misconduct. He was sentenced to a total of 39 years in prison for these crimes, though a New York Court of Appeals judges threw out the initial conviction in April, leading to a retrial. • In a recent development, Weinstein's attorneys have filed a claim notice accusing Rikers Island and Bellevue Hospital staff of medical neglect. They claim that Weinstein's health deteriorated significantly while in custody due to a lack of proper medical care. The notice requests $5 million in damages for the alleged mistreatment. • Weinstein's lawyer, Imran H. Ansari, stated that his client was subjected to deplorable conditions at Rikers Island, including being without cancer medication for several months. Ansari described the situation as akin to a gulag where prisoners are treated like animals. NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Services has stated that they are working to ensure high-quality healthcare for all individuals in custody, including those with complex medical needs. • As Weinstein continues to battle both his health issues and legal challenges, the public remains captivated by the ongoing saga of the fallen Hollywood titan.
