The subscapularis muscle is one of the four rotator cuff muscles of the shoulder. It often requires strengthening after injury or other conditions that can cause the muscle to become weak and painful. Many exercises exist to help strengthen it, however, most of them are rather ineffective since they don't adequately isolate the subscapularis to the greatest extent possible. • When it comes to exercise rehabilitation for this muscle, performing an exercise that forces the muscle to do almost all of the resistance work can lead to quicker and greater outcomes with regaining strength and function of the muscle, and ultimately the shoulder. • This video goes over a resistance exercise based off of a clinical test known as the Kinetic Medial Rotation Test (KMRT), which looks at how well an individual can coordinate and dissociate movement around the glenohumeral (shoulder) joint. • *** • TIMESTAMPS: • 0:00 - Intro • 0:16 - Intro to the subscapularis muscle • 0:55 - The Resisted Kinetic Medial Rotation Test (KMRT) • 1:12 - The general role of the rotator cuff muscles • 1:47 - Setting up for the exercise • 2:10 - Performing the rudimentary exercise • 3:06 - Learning to dissociate movement of the shoulder • 3:45 - Keeping the pectoralis muscle quiet • 4:13 - Keeping the latissimus dorsi muscle quite • 5:17 - How to make sure your shoulder doesn't roll forward • 5:46 - Why PT students should learn the KMRT • 7:11 - Final thoughts • *** • Website: https://www.strengthresurgence.com • *** • Interested in becoming a physical therapist or just want to know a bit more about the profession?
