Feminist pioneer, icon of existentialism: Simone de Beauvoir is the most influential intellectual of the 20th century. And yet her work and life were widely misunderstood. This is what philosopher Kate Kirkpatrick claims, and she explains why Beauvoir must be rediscovered. • • In her recently published book «Becoming Beauvoir», the British philosopher Kate Kirkpatrick aims to demonstrate, through Simone de Beauvoir's biography, how de Beauvoir made a much bigger contribution to existentialist theory than has been assumed until now. She also re-evaluates the life of the cultural figure of Simone de Beauvoir.
