Singapore is facing its biggest dengue epidemic since 2005. Cases of the life-threatening tropical illness peak during the warm months from May to October. • The mosquito that carries the dengue fever virus breeds in stagnant water, often found in urban areas in places like potlants, roof guttering and backyard puddles. • Almost half the world's population is at risk of contracting the oft-deadly virus. Southeast Asia and Latin America are particularly susceptible to outbreaks of the deadly virus. • Initial symptoms can be mistaken for the common flu, with joint and muscular aches accompanied by headaches. • The virus passes from a mosquito's saliva into the lymph glands and eventually the bloodstream of the victim. • This video explains how the virus is contracted and spreads. • ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. • Sign up for a free trial of News Direct's news animations at http://newsdirect.nextanimationstudio... • To subscribe to News Direct or for more info, please visit: • http://newsdirect.nextanimationstudio...
