🔺️The Everly Brothers were an American rock duo known for their steel-string acoustic guitar playing and close harmony singing. Consisting of Isaac Donald Don Everly and Phillip Phil Everly, the duo combined rock and roll, country, and pop, and became pioneers of country rock. • The Everly duo was part of a musical family and started performing on radio in the 1940s. Chet Atkins noticed their talent and helped promote them nationally. • In 1956, they started writing and recording their music. Their first hit, Bye Bye Love, came in 1957. They had more hits through 1958, including Wake Up Little Susie, All I Have to Do Is Dream, and Problems. In 1960, they signed with Warner Bros. Records and recorded Cathy's Clown, their biggest-selling single. After enlisting in the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1961, their output decreased, but they still had hit singles through 1962, with That's Old Fashioned (That's the Way Love Should Be) being their last top-10 hit. • The Everly Brothers had disputes with their manager and faced increased drug use in the 1960s, leading to a decline in popularity in the U.S. They continued to release hit singles in the U.K. and Canada and had successful tours. They started releasing solo recordings in the early 1970s and officially broke up in 1973. They reunited in 1983 and continued to perform until Phil died in 2014. Don died seven years later. • The Everly Brothers had a major influence on the music of the 1960s, inspiring acts like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Bee Gees, and Simon Garfunkel. They were ranked No. 1 on Rolling Stone's list of the 20 Greatest Duos of All Time and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
