Surfin Caramba was formed at the end of 2001 in Santiago de Chile by 666 (vox guitar); Baby del Mar (Fuzzbass) Pollito Warrior (drums). The band started as a raw Psychosurfabilly trio, playing their own instrumental vampire surf songs and covers of their main influences like The Cramps, Social Distortion and Johnny Cash. The sound and spirit of those good old days were captured in their first B-record , completely self produced and from which the song Psychokiller was later released in the first Latin-American Surf compilation Instro-latin Orama . • After playing many gigs in different venues in Santiago and always oriented to a more Pure Psychobilly sound Sr. Lemus joined the band in 2002 taking care of Upright bass duty and Baby del mar shifted to keyboards and singing. • During this stage the band performed in many underground venues in Santiago with other classic Chilean Psychobilly bands as Tios Bizarros, Los Rockers Skizomonstruos. • At the end of 2002 the band organized their first international tour in Buenos Aires where they shared stage with some of the most important bands of the underground GarageSurf-billy scene in Argentina. After the trip to Buenos Aires the band decided to stretch their audience further and they were invited to participate in the Psycho Carnival 2003 in Curitiba, Brazil, at that time the most important event of the Psychobilly scene in South America. The crowd loved the band and vice versa, until the extent that they returned on 2004 with an even higher level of acceptance of the Brazilian Psycho crew. After the second Brazilian tour the band recorded their second studio album, which was unfortunately never release since the band splited up in 2005 due to personal issues. During one year Sr. Lemus and Pollito joined Los Tres singer Alvaro Henriquez to form Revolcón, a Rockabilly cover project and 666 went to Brazil to form 666 Comeback Special with the musicians of the Brazilian Rockabilly band Crazy Legs to tour Brazil on summer of 2005. That same year the Brazilian label Bad Habits records included the SC song Frankenstein Rock in their second compilation Rockin' all over the place , which was distributed world wide. After one year off the band (without Baby del Mar) decided to start playing again, this time as a Psychobilly power trio. The skull-crushing result was immediate and the musicians realized that the rocking feeling of playing together was only asleep, but not forgotten. • • As a solid ground Psychobilly trio the band participated in many Festivals and concerts in the ever growing Chilean Rocking scene in Santiago and other main cities of the country, even also acting as support band for other honored guests as the world famous Texas born Rockabilly singer Mack Stevens. During this stage (2008) they released their third record, simply titled as Surfin Caramba ; which captured a rawer and stronger side of the band's soul, miles away from fashion trends and over exploited horror concepts. • Currently the band is working in their fourth studio album, which will be called Navegando la Tormenta (Sailing the Storm), probably the most epic and emotional work of the trio so far; which will be released in May 2011, followed up by the band's first European tour, playing September at the Bedlam Breakout in the UK, one of the most famous Psychobilly festivals worldwide. • • It is worthy to mention that Surfin Caramba is not just a band, they are a three member nuclear family, and they are as devoted to one another as they are to the music they create, which they play straight from their hearts. • • • http://www.myspace.com/surfincaramba
