#leopardvsdog #leopard #leopardattack • Leopards attacking dogs in India. • In the first clip a young leopard in India sneaked on a stray dog while it was sleeping. Luckily the dog woke up in time and with the yelling of the security guard who was sleeping in the store. The dog managed to fend off the leopard. An estimated 30 million stray dogs live in India, and a report published by the Indian government estimated just under 100,000 of those live in Mumbai. It's illegal to kill a dog in India, and the government is undergoing a massive sterilization effort to mitigate the enormous population. If, as the study concludes, leopards kill about 1,500 dogs every year, it saves the government about US $18,000 annually. Dog density, the scientists found, was about 10 times lower near the park than it was city wide. Using statistical averages of dog bites and rabies cases in the region, the researchers also estimated that the park's leopards prevent 1,000 bites and 90 possible rabies cases. • Mumbai, and India in general, also has a pretty serious feral dog problem. Estimates put the number of stray dogs in the country somewhere around 30 million, and many of them aren’t exactly friendly. Rabies rates are high, and as it’s easily transferred from dogs to humans, approximately 20,000 people in the city die of rabies every year. • Now the next clip is a bit interesting, the leopard tried to attack a stray dog thinking it will be all alone, but was surprised to see the whole pack sleeping together. As we always say that dogs work well in packs. The leopard wasn't expecting a full pack waiting on him. After looking at the pack, the leopard decided to flee the scene. • According to one report a leopard was killed by a pack of of stray dogs in Bhilangana India. Range officer K S Bhandari said, “The leopard came from the nearby forest and the pack of stray dogs who were expert in hunting wild cats jumped on it and killed it within minutes. The same pack had also attacked a tiger in the past as well. This simply means dog can do loads better in packs like their ancestor wolves than working alone. This is why people keep pack of dogs for protecting their livestock against wild animals in countries such a Turkey, Iran, Russia etc. • Mean while in Africa a leopard tried to get through a fence to attack the livestock, when it got stuck under the fence. The farmer's dogs tried to attack the leopard while it was stuck under the fence. But unfortunately for one of the dogs, the leopard managed to get hold of it and ripped it apart. African leopards are bigger and ferocious than the ones in India. Despite the two being similar in physical appearance, skull size and length as well as natural behavior, African leopards have a more robust build compared to their Indian counterparts. They are also bigger, larger, quicker, heavier and sturdier, being blessed with a stronger bite-force of around 370 pounds per square inch (PSI), in contrast with the Indian leopard’s bite-force that is only 300 PSI.
