World of Medieval Music present: Tourdion by Claude Gervaise, interpretation by Consort Crumhorn, Viol and Drums • / medievalmusic • http://www.medieval-music.org • Video produced by Mr. Eduardo Antonello • / mreduardoantonello • Tourdion is a old folk drinking song praising the room-turning qualities of various wines Quand je bois du vin clairet - Tout Tourne This version is arranged by Claude Gervaise (1525--1583) who was French composer and editor of music employed for Pierre Attaingnant and Marie Attaingnant (who took over the printing business after Pierre's death) and other composers such as Certon and Gentian. He is known to have redacted and corrected books three, four and five of Pierre's Danceries and composed some dances for the sixth book. These were published by Attaingnant and his widow. The predominant forms he employed were pavans and Galliards though an occasional Allemande was included. Gervaise also set the in-tablature for ten chansons for the viol which may indicate his instrument of choice.
