M.) liegt am nördlichen Ende des Sarnersees. Die Orte Wilen, Stalden, Ramersberg und Kägiswil gehören ebenfalls zur Gemeinde Sarnen. Aufgrund von grossen Überschwemmungen wurde die Grosse Melchaa von 1878 - 1880 verlegt und fliesst seither nicht mehr durch Sarnen sondern in den Sarnersee. • Bekannte Sehenswürdigkeiten: der Landenberg (ehemaliger Sitz der Vögte, vom 17. - 20. Jh. Tagungsort der Obwaldner Landsgemeinde), der Dorfplatz, die Grundacher Villa, das Historische Museum Obwalden, die Pfarrkirche St. Peter und Paul und der Hexenturm. • • Sarnen (470 m above sea level) lies at the northern tip of the lake Sarnersee. The villages of Wilen, Stalden, Ramersberg, and Kägiswil also belong to the municipality of Sarnen. Due to severe flooding, the river Grosse Melcher was rechanneled between 1878 and 1880 and no longer flows through Sarnen but into the lake Sarnersee. • Popular places of interest are: the Landenberg (former place of residence of the bailiffs, from the 17th -- 20th century the meeting place of the Obwalden Landsgemeinde), the village square, the Grundacher mansion, the Historisches Museum Obwalden, the parish church St. Peter and Paul, and the Hexenturm (witch tower).
