After watching this video you should be able to: • 1) Identify an excitatory versus inhibitory neurotransmitter based on how it changes the postsynaptic membrane potential. • 2) Understand how multiple synaptic inputs sum to produce a response in the postsynaptic neuron. • These short videos are used in BIOL 136: Vertebrate Neurophysiology, an upper-division undergraduate elective at San Jose State University taught by Katie Wilkinson. The course is 'flipped', which means students watch these videos at home and we spend class time on problem sets, discussions and laboratory activities. You are welcome to use them to study Neurophysiology or use as a supplement in your own class.
