On December 1st, 2023, a very special delivery arrived from Canada (maybe the North Pole?): two sweet serval girls. Jayda is the smaller of the two, six years old, declawed, and quite outgoing. Zara is larger, four years old, not declawed, and very shy. Theirs is a story we often hear: servals purchased as pets, and then the owner’s circumstances change. What’s different about these two is they came to us in excellent condition. They had been fed whole prey and were in great shape. Canada has no regulations about owning servals, and just as in the US, this needs to stop! Servals and other small cats are bred and sold as “pets” by unscrupulous breeders who know very well that they are not pets!
