According to police radio traffic, the victim called 911 and reported he was stabbed. The suspect fled the scene on foot. A small crime scene was set up at the southeast corner of the intersection. • The Champaign Police Department and Illinois State Police responded to assist. The suspect was described as a male Hispanic or possibly a light-skinned male black wearing a black jacket and black pants, according to police radio traffic. The suspect, described as college-age, reportedly had a satchel across the middle of his body and had a black hat or mask on. They were last seen running southbound on Fourth Street from the scene. Initial reports indicated the suspect may have ran into the nearby Seven07 apartments, however that was not confirmed. • The victim was reportedly conscious and breathing after the stabbing. He was transported to an area hospital by Carle Arrow Ambulance 8295. As of the time of this video upload, the victim’s condition or exact injuries are unknown, but the University of Illinois Police Department said his injuries were non-life-threatening. • A University of Illinois police officer with the department’s crime scene unit responded to the scene. Officers continued to search the area for the suspect. A University of Illinois police sergeant declined to comment or give a statement at the scene. As of the time of this video upload, no one is in custody. • The University of Illinois Police Department said the stabbing was the result of an altercation. The victim is a student who approached a man, exchanged words, and threw a punch. The man dodged the punch and then stabbed the student, police said. He then ran southbound. Officers searched the area but determined the suspect had left the campus area. Police have shared an image of the man obtained through security camera footage. Anyone with information should call the University of Illinois Police Department at 217-333-1216. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Champaign County Crime Stoppers. • Police later announced that the man has been identified. University of Illinois Police Department Spokesperson Patrick Wade told Woo-Sung Shim that no charges have been filed.
