HOW TO MAKE A 2STRAW EYELASH YARN LEI

My hula class had our 2nd lei-making workshop today (July 27, 2012). Cynthia demonstrates once again for us. (To make a ONE-straw lei, please visit • HOW TO MAKE A ONE-STRAW LEI ) • • • SUPPLIES NEEDED: • 1 skein eyelash yarn • 3/8 Grosgrain ribbon • 2 Kukui nuts (optional) • 18 Floral wire -- thin • Scissors • Tape • 2 Regular size drinking straws • • 1. Fold thin floral wire in half. Cut two each of 3-yard Grosgrain ribbons. String one ribbon through each straw. With about an inch or two sticking out of one end of the straw, tape down end to the straw. • 2. Tie yarn to one straw. • 3. Using a circular figure-8 motion, weave yarn onto the straws. • 4. Continue using the figure-8 motion. Push down the yarn onto the ribbon as the straw gets full, making sure to leave some yarn on the straws. Use the entire skein of yarn to finish the lei. • 5. Tie the end. Leaving about 10 of ribbon on both sides, string the kukui nut on each ribbon. Tie each end to the nut. Trim the ribbon. • 6.
