Pragser Wildsee (Lago di Braies) is the largest natural and one of the most beautiful lake in the Dolomites. It offers turquoise waters surrounded by forests and striking mountains. • From here one can enjoy numerous mountain hikes in the surroundings. We were short of time so we did a short 3.5KM hike around the lake to see it from all the angles. • The Lake's color changes dramatically as you walk around it. • You can also rent one of the rowing boats and enjoy the scenery from the water. • We stayed at the Hotel Pragser Wildsee, which is a family run hotel located on the shore of this beautiful lake. You will not find a more stunning location for a hotel. The hotel has a fascinating history and there’s plenty of information available regarding the role it played during WW2. • Staying at the hotel is the best way to visit the lake, as we were there before and after the daily tourist rush-hours. • The Hotel is quaint, historical and full of character but if you like modern amenities, it might not suit your taste. • Our room was old fashioned, small and basic but offered a welcoming balcony with a lovely view of the lake and mountains. • We could have sat there forever to soak in the magical surroundings. • WiFi was spotty throughout the hotel, and you might not catch any network on your phone all the time. But this gives you the chance to appreciate the natural beauty all around you. • A nice bar downstairs and a huge dining area are perfect to take a break from the sight-seeing. • • Room price included a four-course dinner (which was a reasonable quality) and a nice big breakfast buffet with plenty of options for all tastes. • Recommend one has a hearty breakfast to set you up for exploring the area through the day, as there is so much to see and do in this region. • After we finished our hike, We drove to Passo Giau to hike to our next destination, Rifugio Scoiattoli.
