Obviously, we don’t want stuff like this to happen, but being a combat sport it occurs sometimes. • Whether it’s grappling, MMA or pure striking I’ve seen accidental cuts happen in all. But if memory serves correctly, this is the first time I’ve personally cut someone open like this. • In chatting to the guys and coaches it’s just that it hit the perfect spot and you can’t really do much about that. • It was such a light tap but the part of my foot that hit to the part of his eye / eyelid it made contact with will just split it. • Good placement for fights, not the greatest for training, but we learn either way 🙏 • Ideally we mitigate the risk by doing lighter contact, or no contact, however in these more fighter oriented open mats we do more contact is expected. • Thankfully it’s almost fully healed during the week and he was back training straight away ❤️ • I’ll be honest it’s a bit embarrassing to post this as I don’t like hurting anyone, especially my team mates.
