Tinikling - This is one of the most popular and best known of the Philippine dances. The dance imitates the movement of the tikling birds as they walk between grass stems, run over tree branches, or dodge bamboo traps set by rice farmers. Dancers imitate the tikling bird's legendary grace and speed by skillfully maneuvering between large bamboo poles. Tinikling means bamboo dance in English (cited from http://www.likha.org/galleries/tinikl... , and amended after comments indicated that it is not the official National dance). Performed by housestaff during Philippine Cultural Awareness Event at Morristown Memorial Hospital, in Morristown, New Jersey, on 24 December 2007.
