In the early-2000's, in the little alleyway behind what is now the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Gulshan 2, there used to be a little food cart named Berlin Bakery. • Now you might think that the cart sold breads and pastries and other baked items, but then you would be spectacularly wrong. In fact, Berlin Bakery sold roast chicken and assorted fried items. Obviously. 🙄 • But naming issues notwithstanding, those in the know were big fans of Berlin Bakery for one big reason: their wallet friendly prices. You could get half a roast chicken and a slice of bread for tk60. And even in those days, that was a spectacularly cheap price! • Berlin Bakery had irregular hours and would close up as soon as they ran out of food. So it was a matter of luck to find it open and another piece of luck if they had the chicken. At least we pretended it was chicken. For all we knew, it could have been crow that we were eating. But at those prices, we didn't mind. • I came to Rater Kabab last night, and waited in front of their grill as they cooked my kebabs. But it wasn't the smoke that made me cry, it was their eye-watering prices.
