DIY Hole Cutter Tool for Foam

In this video, I craft a custom hole cutter tool for boring holes in foam. I needed to bore a hole of a specific diameter through foam and I was tired of using a hotwire foam cutter because of the toxic fumes it gave off and because, oddly, those fumes would coat every surface in my room and prevent tape from sticking to the surfaces which became a real problem because I use tape all the time. I even make my own tapes. So I needed a mechanical means of cutting neat perfect bore holes through foam. I studied the hole saws my dad had along with the various bits that came with his saws which were too thick-walled to cut neat holes in foam without tearing the foam to shreds. I needed something with fine, thin walls that could easily slide within the foam without tearing it apart. I searched the house looking for inspiration and I found that a old office desk in the garage that I pulled out of a neighbor's trash to store tools on had support arms holding up a shelf that were made of thin sheet metal rolled into a tube and welded than powder coated and happened to be the correct diameter I needed. I cut free a length of this sheet-metal tube and grounded it sharp on the end and added teeth to it, just like the hole saw bits my dad has have teeth. This gives it a serrated edge that can tear and slice through things easier. I found my efforts paid off greatly because the tool works perfectly. Now, I just need to create a guidance system that will center and guide the tool in a straight, true line into the foam so that it is not done by eye and can be more accurate. • • http://www.artbyrobot.com • / artbyrobot • https://plus.google.com/+artbyrobot1 • / realistic-humanoid-robot • / artbyrobot • / artbyrobot • / www • / artbyrobot • To send me a one time donation: https://streamlabs.com/artbyrobot • To send me an automated monthly donation: / artbyrobot
