The Nest Gen 3 smart thermostat will typically work most heat only or boiler HVAC systems in 2 wire configurations without the addition of a common wire. Both the Nest E and the Nest Gen 3 do not require a common wire when installing the Nest Thermostat. However the 2020 version of the Nest Thermostat with a mirrored face does require a common wire or common wire transformer when it’s being installed in an existing 2 wire smart thermostat configuration. • In the video we replace and existing 2 wire thermostat with a new Nest 3rd Gen smart thermostat that allows you to remotely control your heating and cooling from your phone. The Nest Gen 3 is also a smart learning thermostat that can automatically schedule heating and cooling based on learning your daily routine.
