How to remove an outboard WITHOUT an engine hoist. This is how lift and remove an outboard redneck style. If you're going to attempt this make sure everything is as strong as possible and all of your rigging is perfect. After all, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. BUY EVINRUDE LIFT EYE: http://amzn.to/2hy0FdQ BUY MERCURY LIFT EYE: http://amzn.to/2iGYQr0 or http://amzn.to/2ijvfqS TOOL LINKS BELOW! • Ideally, you would use an engine hoist to do this, but since we do not have one this is how we did it. • Old motor: 1979 Evinrude 140 V4 • New motor: 1986 Evinrude 150XP V6 • I fabricated this bracket to lift either outboard using the holes that are already tapped in the flywheel. • If you can't make your own bracket you can get one here: • Lift Brackets: • Evinrude/Johnson: http://amzn.to/2hy0FdQ • Mercury: http://amzn.to/2iGYQr0 • or • http://amzn.to/2ijvfqS • --------------------------------------- • Engine Hoists • 1 Ton Engine Chain Hoist: http://amzn.to/2voCd1U • 2 Ton Folding Engine Cherry Picker: http://amzn.to/2vlruXZ • 3/4 Ton Engine Stand: http://amzn.to/2vp16uk • -------------------------------------- • Outboard Engine Stands • 15HP - 30HP Rolling Folding Stand: http://amzn.to/2fu7JYs • 30HP - 115HP Rolling Folding Stand: http://amzn.to/2vQUvft • 315LBS HEAVY DUTY Rolling Stand: http://amzn.to/2uqDWXo • -------------------------------------- • Check to see which one will work for your particular motor, and make SURE that you use grade 8 bolts. • *************************************** • The eye bolt in the top HAS to have a shank and has to be completely closed so that it is impossible for it to open up! If it doesn't have a shank around the base of the eye, with the eye firmly bolted against your plate, it can BEND the shaft. • *************************************** • Although, in terms of rigging, this is nothing (only 300lbs) it is obviously better to be safe than sorry, and you really do not want to drop a multi-thousand dollar outboard on the pavement, or even worse, on your foot.
