LIZARD and COMMON WOLF SNAKE fighting. • • The term common wolf snake refers to a group of nonvenomous snakes belonging to the family Colubridae and the genus Lycodon. These snakes are characterized by their large teeth in both jaws, which give them a wolf-like appearance, hence their name. • • There are three species of snakes that are commonly known as the common wolf snake : • • Lycodon aulicus (Indian Wolf Snake): This species is found in South Asia and Southeast Asia. It is often confused with the venomous common krait due to its similar appearance. However, the presence of a loreal shield (a single, large scale between the eye and nostril) distinguishes it from kraits. The Lycodon aulicus can grow to a length of 71 cm (28 inches) and has a variable coloration, ranging from uniform brown to brown with white cross bars. They are known to inhabit a variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, and agricultural areas. [1] • Lycodon capucinus: This species, also known as the common wolf snake, is found in the Indo-Australian archipelago. It is a slender-bodied snake that can grow to a length of less than one meter. The Lycodon capucinus has a distinct white coloration around its neck and a duck-bill-shaped snout for digging in soft ground. They are primarily nocturnal and feed on small lizards, skinks, and frogs. [2] • Lycodon solivagus: This species is found on Luzon Island in the Philippines. It is a dark brown snake with white transverse stripes across its body. The Lycodon solivagus is known to inhabit shrubbery and is considered a lowland species. [4] • • The common wolf snake is a nonvenomous snake that is not harmful to humans. However, they can bite if they feel threatened. They are generally shy and prefer to avoid human contact. These snakes play an important role in their ecosystems by controlling populations of small lizards and other prey. • • While the term common wolf snake is used to describe multiple species, each species has its own unique characteristics and distribution. It is important to note that the term common wolf snake can be ambiguous, as it can refer to different species depending on the region. • #lizard #snake #lizardandsnakefighting #commonwolfsnake #nonvenomoussnake #nonvenomous
